A bit about me, my Art and where it all began ...

My name is Sharlene Bruce and I am a professional, full-time Freelance Artist, drawing and painting portraits mainly, but also have interests in a wide variety of other subjects. I have always had a passion for art and creating and had an equal passion for animals and wildlife since I was young enough to remember. Over the years combining the two, I am here today being lucky enough to make a living from doing what I love.

I come from an Arty family and will always remember when I was very young watching my father carve animals and insects from wood and paint them realistically ...the kind if things you could look at for hours and not get bored. He always tried to be different which is what I love about Art. For example, you may find a thousand portrait artists on the web ...but no two are exactly the same ...ever! Every single Painting, no matter what it is is unique down to every stroke of the artists brush.

On my way to arriving where I am today I had queried the 'competition' in the art world (even on the World Wide Web!) and questioned whether I was good enough to participate, (I think every Artist does at some point), would people really like my work? ...etc ...etc. But as time has gone by I have grown to realise that no artwork is 'better' or 'worse' than anyone elses. My work for example is 'my' impression of your dog, 'my' impression of your mother with her cat on her lap, it is up to you to decide if you like what I do by judging what you see in the examples I have given on my Gallery page. I appreciate and admire the wide range of different styles and the uniqueness that every artist expresses through a piece of artwork. I really hope you like my work!

To begin with I had always stuck with Animal and Wildlife Portraits, they seemed to be popular and there will always be pets to be portrayed but I was forever being asked if I could do 'people' portraits and I eventually decided to give people a try as I hadn't done enough before to be confident enough to add it to my job discription. Fortunately, drawing people came naturally to me and I didn't have too much trouble changing my ways of painting/drawing fur and feathers to capturing human skin tones instead. I have since had many happy customers and no complaints so people portraits are something I am happy to do for you just as much as your pets. I have also done some landscape, still life, cityscape, cars and even motorbikes in the past so I am more than happy to try anything you request, try me!
